Summer Reading Program 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Kids

The Summer 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Kids challenge will run from June 21 through August 16. This Summer Reading Program features an outdoor adventure theme, skill development, and a variety of other exciting experiences; Summer Camp at the Library! Using Beanstack, you will log each book you borrow and read from Beaman Library to earn badges, prize tickets, and rewards. You may also earn extra tickets by participating in some of the many activities the Library will be offering! Use your tickets to enter raffles for the many prizes that are available. Read below to learn more about all of the fun programming scheduled for this summer!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge is Now Available in Beanstack!

To participate, register your child(ren) in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading challenge by visiting Beaman Library's Beanstack page. Then, visit Beaman Library, borrow Beaman Library books, and read them to your child(ren). Every book you read counts as one book toward completing your 1,000 books. There is no need to write down the title! If your child(ren) have a favorite that you read multiple times over your check out period, each time you read the book counts too! Along the way you will earn virtual badges as you climb your way to the top of the challenge. Once completed, the participant will receive a handcrafted book bag and certificate of achievement. Kanopy Kids Now Available!

Kanopy Kids LogoGood News! Beaman Library has just added nearly 30,000 movies and other videos that inspire, educate and entertain, from Kanopy. Free to cardholders who live in West Boylston*, Kanopy’s unique selection offers something for everyone, from award winning indie films to important and timely documentaries, to foreign films, popular cinema, children’s shows and more.

Many of Kanopy’s videos are not available on Netflix or any other streaming video platform, and the experience is easy-to-use and completely advertisement free. To sign up, visit Kanopy Kids is accessible via the link in the upper right hand corner. We hope you enjoy this new service!

*If you do not live in West Boylston you can access Kanopy with a Boston Public Library ecard. Many libraries now have a subscription to Kanopy so check out the library in your town!

Zoo Animal Program
Wednesdays, June 22 through August 17 at 11:00 a.m.
Each week we will stream a live cam in our meeting room, read stories about the featured animal, and create a craft. Please sign up a week in advance for this program by sending an email to with 'Zoo' in the subject line.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Program: Henry the Juggler                                       
Thursday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m.                                                               
Henry the Juggler (aka Henry Lappen) is wanted! He is wanted by audiences everywhere for his zany attempts to defy the laws of gravity as he juggles balls, clubs, rings, and members of the audience . . . he even balances strange items on the tip of his nose! Ukulele Day
Saturday, June 25 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Off the Beaten Path Trivia Night for Families

Billboard Detectives
Thursday, June 30 or Friday, July 1
Visit the Rail Trail in West Boylston on Thursday or Friday anytime during daylight hours and walk the trail doing the activities on the story boards. Dino Tea Party

Annual Beaman Library Pet Show
Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m.
Grab your favorite animals (live or stuffed) and bring them to the Library for our Annual Pet Show. Every pet is a winner and we have trophies for the 'Best' in each group. The entry fee of $1.00 per pet will be donated to Worcester Animal Rescue League. There is no need to sign up ahead of time. The Firefighter Challenge
Thursday, July 14 at 4:00 p.m.
Do you have what it takes to complete this scorcher of a challenge? Local firefighters will create an obstacle course on the Library's lawn for you to show off your best firefighting skills, including the wielding of a hose! Rain date: Thursday, July 28

Flying High Dogs
Tuesday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Central Park, Clinton
Together with our neighboring Library, the Bigelow Free Public Library, we will be entertained by talented frisbee catching dogs. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a cool drink. Email with 'Flying' in the subject line to reserve your spot. Sponsored by the Friends of the Beaman Library.

Rocket Launching with Aldrich Astronomical
Saturday, July 30 at 3:15 p.m. at Woodland Park
Aldrich Astronomical is back and this time they are bringing rockets! Learn about Newton’s Law as you safely launch and recover air burst rockets as high as 1000 feet! Space is limited. Email to reserve your spot. Teens and children are invited to attend!

Arteca Karate

Owl Pellet Dissection

Family Frozen Ice Social

ASLdeafined logo

Your Beaman Library card now provides access to ASLdeafined, a program that teaches American Sign Language. Access over 300 lessons, a video dictionary of over 15,000 words, and other tools and resources to boost your learning. You can track your progress with ASLdeafined's progress chart and see how far you’ve come. This is a great tool for new parents communicating with their young children, parents/children who have an interest in learning this skill, and interacting with the deaf community.
