Registration Policy

The Beaman Memorial Public Library welcomes registrations from all residents of Massachusetts whose town libraries maintain current certification from the Mass Board of Library Commissioners. Residents of other states may register for a library card, but will be asked to leave a $25.00 deposit and will be limited to borrowing two items at a time.

In order to register, a person must present some form of identification that includes name and address. The library accepts a single identification from family members who live at the same residence. Patrons must notify the library of any change of name, address, or telephone number.

Children are issued cards when they are able to print their name. Children up through Grade 6 are registered in the Children's Room. Parent's signatures are required on children's cards. Special arrangements will be made if a parent is unable to sign the form at the library. Youth in Grade 7 and up register in the Adult Department. Parent's names should be listed on the youth's registration form, but parent's signatures are not required.

A fee is charged for the replacement of lost library cards. The patron will receive a new registration number, and the old number will receive a "lost or missing" designation. Patrons may check out materials without their library card, but may be asked to present some form of identification when doing so. If a person repeatedly checks out materials without a library card, they may be asked to purchase a replacement card.

Any person who registers with the Beaman Memorial Public Library assumes the privilege of borrowing materials and using library facilities according to the rules and policies set forth by the Board of Library Trustees. Parents and guardians assume the same responsibility for minors. The Board reserves the right to withdraw library privileges from any person who violates library rules and policies.
