Who can be a library advocate? Anyone who cares about America's libraries! (Click for larger image.)
Library advocates play a key role in educating our communities about why libraries and librarians are essential in an information society. The time is for action is now!
Libraries are in danger of loosing funding on both the state and federal levels this year. Please engage your state legislators to encourage them to increase funding to line items affecting libraries and Interlibrary loan delivery. This infographic will give your more details about library use and proposed cuts, as well as contact information for your MA legislators:
Senator Hariette Chandler
Representative James O'Day
Please ask your Representative to support LSTA and IAL funding. Members of the House need to hear from their constituents before April 3rd. Please call your Representative and ask them to sign both the LSTA and the IAL “Dear Appropriator” letters our champions have circulated, otherwise funding for LSTA and IAL will be cut or eliminated next year.

The Friends is a group of citizens of West Boylston and other towns who understand the importance of library service to the community. They work in a variety of ways to help improve the library by providing funding for programming, technology, the Museum Pass Program and other expenses not covered in the municipal budget. They also are important advocates for the library.
Friends membership dues and the Friends Annual Book Sale are the primary forms of income for this endeavor. We encourage you to join or renew your membership to The Friends. Membership runs from January through December each year. Non-resident Friends members gain an added benefit of being able to reserve museum passes in advance. Show your support for the Library and Join the Friends today!

A few months ago Library volunteer Jen Sappington suddenly lost her beloved service dog, Mernie. Mernie was the star of our "Waggin’ Tales" program in which children would take turns reading to Mernie. Mernie was trained to assist Jen with hearing and stability. A new service dog with this training costs $20,000. The Friends of the Library will match up to $500 in donations. If you would like to participate please drop off a check at the library payable to Sean Sappington, Jen’s brother, who is helping to coordinate our efforts.
We are pleased to announce a new way to make a difference at our library:
1. If you shop at Amazon.com and want a percentage (0.5%) to go to the Friends, log in through smile.amazon.com
(It will not work if you start shopping at amazon.com)
2. On the right it says Select a Charity. Halfway down it says "Or pick your own charitable organization."
3. Do a search for 'Friends of Beaman.' Select the one that says West Boylston, MA. Happy Shopping!
Check the Friends of the Beaman Library Amazon Page before you purchase your next book. Go to this page and click the products tab to see all that they are currently selling! You may find just what you are looking for and each purchase provides funding to the Friends!
If you would like to offer your services by serving on the Friends Board, please call the library 508-835-3711.
The Trustees and the Friends of the Beaman Memorial Public Library have jointly established The Endowment Fund to strengthen the future of our library. The Endowment Committee has partnered with Greater Worcester Community Foundation to manage our fund. Our Endowment is still in the growing phases, but its purpose is to go above and beyond the level of basic services required for state certification currently funded by the Town.
Before the end of 2017, if you make a donation to the Friends of the Beaman Library Endowment, our anonymous donor will match it, up to a total of $4,350. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Library. Please make checks out to: The Friends of Beaman Library Endowment. Call 508-835-3711 for more information.
To donate other types of assets, such as securities, real estate, personal property, transfer of an existing private foundation, charitable lead trust, gifts of closely held stock or Family Limited Partnerships, please contact the Library Director, Anna Shaw.
A planned gift benefits the community after your lifetime and giving is easier than you might think. Options include: gifts by will, life insurance policies, individual retirement account (IRA) assets, pooled income fund, charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trusts, or gift of a retained life estate.
For more information about the Endowment or to discuss setting up a planned gift, please contact Library Director, Anna Shaw.
The Friends of the Beaman Memorial Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity. All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Look inside and outside of the Library and you will see examples of our patrons' generosity and that of the community; the bench outside of our front doors in memory of Leo Maki, the wooden rocking chair in the Reading Room in memory of Harry Day, the garden along Newton Street, improved exterior lighting, and many books presented in memory of loved ones.
You can give to the library in a multitude of ways: by becoming a volunteer, joining the Friends of the Beaman Memorial Public Library or by making a monetary donation to the Friends of Beaman Library Endowment.
We appreciate each and every donation – more than that, we rely on your generosity to help us achieve our vision to excel as the lifelong learning and cultural center of our community, to provide exemplary services and to promote equal access to information for all who enter our doors. The Beaman Memorial Public Library is a municipal department of the Town of West Boylston. Donations to the library are tax deductible.
Checks may be made out to the Beaman Memorial Public Library with the words "Gift Fund" written in the memo line. This money goes directly to the library and is used to supplement the operating budget for books and small furnishings, depending on current needs.
We welcome contributions to help us maintain our current collection of magazines and newspapers. You can pay for a subscription for a favorite magazine by contacting any staff member. Please ask at the main desk if you are interested in contributing.
Donations for the purchase of books and other materials may be made in honor or memory of a person or a special event. A bookplate will be placed in each item purchased. Donations targeted to larger projects such as the tall lights at the front of the library building serve as a wonderful recognition of loved ones. Please contact the Library Director, Anna Shaw, at 508 835-3711 for more information.
