Friends of the Beaman Library logo

The Friends is a group of citizens of West Boylston and other towns who understand the importance of library service to the community. They work in a variety of ways to help improve the library by providing funding for programming, technology, the Museum Pass Program and other expenses not covered in the municipal budget. They also  are important advocates for the library.

Friends membership dues and the Friends Annual Book Sale are the primary forms of income for this endeavor. We encourage you to join or renew your membership to The Friends. Membership runs from January through December each year. Non-resident Friends members gain an added benefit of being able to reserve museum passes in advance. Show your support for the Library and Join the Friends today!

The Friends Annual Event is Coming!

Join us on Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m.-noon for a Tombstone Talk and Interactive Tour of Mount Vernon Cemetery

Cemeteries are not just collections of tombstones identifying their below-ground inhabitants. Upon closer inspection, gravestones often portray beautiful graphics ranging from the spiritually uplifting to the cryptically spooky, as well as epitaphs that can deliver humorous or even blunt messages of warning to cemetery visitors.

The tour will be led by cemetery historian Brenda Sullivan, a principal of The Gravestone Girls. With permission of the Mount Vernon Cemetery Commission, the event will include a gravestone rubbing demonstration and the opportunity for participants to do their own revealing (and non-damaging) rubbings of decades- or even centuries-old gravemarkers.

Tickets for the interactive tour and talk are $5 per person, capped at $15 per family, and includes gravestone rubbing supplies. To be held rain or shine; bring umbrellas if necessary. Tickets are avialable now at Beaman LIbrary, or online at:  Preregistration is requested.

The beautiful Holbrook Chapel at the entrance of Mount Vernon Cemetery will also be open for tours.

The Trustees and the Friends of the Beaman Memorial Public Library have jointly established The Endowment Fund to strengthen the future of our library. The Endowment Committee is spearheading this effort and has partnered with Greater Worcester Community Foundation to manage our fund. The Endowment will in no way supplant the tax-based funding which every year keeps our doors open. What the Endowment can do is make the difference between basic services and the level of service, hours and resources that the people of West Boylston deserve. All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
